music video director Alex and Martin

Alex and Martin
music video that they have directed and music video that they directed separately

Alex and Martin were a music video directingduo consisting of Alex Courtes and Martin Fougerol. They directed several music videos with artists such as The White Stripes and U2.

They won a Grammy Award in 2005 in the Best Short Form Music Video category for directing the music video for "Vertigo" by U2.

I reason why i have choose Alex and Martin isthat i'm interested in the music video they have directed and that they have directed music video for a number of artists from different genre, also they use different editing techniques inartistes music video such as using animation in kasabian- shoot the runner.
I am also interested in their work when alex and martin split up.

music video
video analysis

Here is one of the music video that they have directed, i was interested in was that they use animation for music video, as they show the animation of paint splashing on to the screen and they animated the band. they also use bright colours in darks background.
They also have godwin theory in the music video, as their is a relationshipbetween music and visuals, which was show then their was the animation of paint splash on the artist, which was similar someone getting shot.

video analysis
the music video starts with a stage performance from the band and doinggun references.
Here is a screenshot of one of the band members doing a gun shape with his hand. They also show a stage performance style music video.
The music video then continues to the part of each of the band members have paint splashing onto each of the band members, this could show they are being shot, as the paint was a red/ orange colour, which could represent blood.

Goodwin theory
1. genre characteristics
the genre characteristics of this music video is indies rock, this is represented by shows guitars, drum and a stage performance
2. The music video shows a relationship between the lyrics and visuals by literally doing the action the action, as the lyrics say 'shoot the runner' and the action of shooting someone with a hand shaped as a gun.
3. The relationship between music and visuals show the pace of the music video change with the music, as their is a part of the music video where it is slow pace.

This is a screenshot of when the music video change it pace, this also show that they used effects in this part of the music video.
4. The record label show close up of the artist in the music video.
This is a screenshot of a close up shot of a band member, the record label show a close up shot to promote the artist.

5. Their are various shot of the band, close up of them and wide shot.

6. Intertextual References
Here is a screenshot from the music video 'Shoot The Runner' where one member put his hand into a gun sharp and do the action of shooting a gun, this could show a intertextual references of an action film, as the white paint onthe tip of his fingers could show a gun flash/shot

Here is another screen shot of the music video with more references of action films, as in the screenshot show that one of the band being shoot and the paint is representing blood splatter.

Video Analysis
The White Stripes Seven Nation Army
This is another music video that Alex and Martin directed, they use mostly effects and transaction in this music video, which could be their signature for the music video that they have directed, as in kasabian music video for 'shoot the runner' they animated the band members and added special effects. In the Seven Nation Army they used different editing techniques for their music video as they use a kaleidoscopic tunnel through various shape through out the music video.
They show the common genre characteristics of most alternative rock music video as they show a stage performance from The White Stripes.

Here are some screenshot from their music video using the kaleidoscopic tunnel in their music video.
